L-3 NSS and Baron Services Partner to Pursue Weather Radar Business

L-3 National Security Solutions and Baron Services Sign Strategic Collaboration Agreement to Pursue Weather Radar Opportunities

RESTON, Va., September 30, 2013 – L-3 National Security Solutions (L-3 NSS) announced today that it has signed a strategic collaboration agreement with Baron Services Inc. to pursue opportunities involving weather radar systems, both in the U.S. and internationally.

Since 2007, the two companies have teamed on the successful National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) NEXRAD contract that upgraded all 169 of the National Weather Service’s Doppler radar systems to dual-polarization radars. This new technology gives meteorologists and forecasters better situational awareness and predictive capabilities.

Under the new agreement, L-3 and Baron intend to pursue more joint business opportunities, including new installations, existing radar equipment upgrades or refurbishments, and weather products for integration into larger systems and weather operations centers.

“The industry has identified the need for more accurate and detailed data so that meteorologists can better and more quickly predict weather events to help citizens protect life and property,” said Les Rose, president of L-3 National Security Solutions. “Over the years, L-3 and Baron have closely worked together and made significant investments to improve weather systems, supply chain management and data distribution. This latest collaboration will continue to bring together our best-in-class capabilities to offer high-quality, proven solutions for our customers.”

“Baron Services was founded with the ultimate mission of saving lives,” said Bob Baron, president and CEO of Baron Services. “Throughout the company’s history, we have stayed true to that mission by furthering the development of unique and cutting-edge weather tools and systems for use by meteorologists, governments and businesses throughout the world. Our partnership with L-3 on the NEXRAD dual-polarization upgrade resulted in yet untold benefits to the meteorological community in the United States. This agreement will once again combine our strengths to bring customers the value and expertise for which we are known.”

Under the agreement, L-3 NSS will provide systems integration capabilities, including management planning, engineering, logistics, coordination, reporting and customer interface. Baron will provide hardware and software design and testing, manage suppliers, and procure, assemble and deliver products for installation.
